A team of researchers from UT Knoxville not only won first prize in VentureWell’s 2016 BMEidea Competition but also took home the TREAT Award for the “Rehabilitation Technology Most Likely to be Commercialized.” The FastCast team wowed a multi-disciplinary panel of judges with their innovative approach to casting, which, because it enables tool-free removal, fills a significant market need. States Rick Greenwald, TREAT Co-Director, “The FastCast device shows potential to be a highly disruptive and elegant solution in the cast market.” In addition, the judges noted favorably the professionalism, dedication, and compassion shown by the FastCast team in the development of this device. Along with the $1000 prize from TREAT, the team was invited to utilize TREAT program resources to help accelerate development of both the technology and market potential of their device. The prize also includes an invitation for one member of the team to participate in a funded internship or sabbatical opportunity at the TREAT facilities in Lebanon, NH. Congratulations FastCast!
