Concept Design

Commercialization Process: Concept Design

Description

Conceptual Design is an early creative stage of development that is primarily influenced by validated market requirements but also allows the evaluation of all potential solutions and ideas that satisfy those requirements.  Conceptual designs are an embodiment of key features and technology capabilities and may take many forms including: wireframes, schematics, drawings, workflows, etc. Document all concepts and/or aspects of a concept that may have merit.  Iterate until there are a number of solutions that reflect the depth and breadth of viable solutions.

Create an initial screening tool to assist with down-selection of design concepts into categories that reflect the strategic business priorities of the company.

How this Milestone Reduces Project Risk

Thoughtful exploration and evaluation of design ideas early-on will deliver the most robust technology solutions. Having buy-in from the development team and other stakeholders encourages communication and alignment of goals.

What to consider at this time

Evaluate risks and rewards against the priorities, capabilities, and resources of the development team and company as a whole.
